Once the supplier of the Queen of Denmark, Royal Copenhagen is renowned for their creativity and delicate artistry in porcelain design. This plate is no exception. Crafted to commemorate the Waagepetersen wine shop, it features the stately facade of the store at its center. Waagepetersen was the leading wine dealer in Copenhagen in the 19th century; established in 1808 by Christian Waagepetersen, the firm was appointed the royal wine merchant by 1827. In addition to his dealings in wine, Christian Waagepetersen was also an important patron of the arts in Danish society. His home, known as The Waagepetersen House, was a meeting place for many leading figures of the Danish Golden Age during the 1820s and 1830s. This plate is a stunning and beautifully executed commemoration of his legacy.
