This sophisticated French Art Deco cocktail cabinet combines sculptural form with exceptional functionality. Crafted circa 1930 in richly figured Cuban mahogany burl, the cabinet conceals a complete cocktail service within its streamlined façade. The illuminated upper compartment opens to reveal a mirrored interior fitted with a cocktail shaker, six metal cups, six shot glasses and six cocktail picks, while the lower central cabinet houses a metal ice bucket with tongs and storage for four bottles. Ingeniously designed revolving compartments at either side accommodate an extensive suite of glassware and space for ten additional bottles, transforming the cabinet into a complete and self-contained bar.
French designers of the interwar period elevated the cocktail cabinet into an important expression of modern luxury, responding to the growing popularity of sophisticated home entertaining during the 1920s and 1930s. Cabinetmakers frequently paired rare and richly figured woods with mirrored surfaces, polished metal fittings and cleverly engineered interiors.
