This unique antique brooch takes the form of two delicate grapes hanging from a vine. Each grape is made of translucent green art glass, and the pair hangs from a silver-on-gold vine with rose cut diamond accents. The brooch was crafted by Georges Fonsèque and Emile Olive, prominent French jewelers known for charming designs like this one. The firm’s rise to fame was catapulted by their innovative coffee bean brooches of 1885, presented in a coffee husk-shaped box, and grape brooches of 1889, which were originally contained in miniature wooden wine cases.

This is an excellent example of the iconic Fonsèque et Olive design, with similar examples present in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s collection and the renowned Art Nouveau jeweler Henri Vever’s comprehensive book, French Jewellery of the Nineteenth Century.
