Formed entirely of 18K yellow gold polished to a high shine, this sleek case was created by the one and only Cartier. The exterior features a finely etched monogram and heraldic crown indicating this piece was made for a French Marquis. The case was envisioned by Adolphe Chailloux, who created many of Cartier's cigarette cases during this period, and its streamlined structure reflects the early 20th century fascination with the innovations of the modern age, particularly aircraft.

Likely designed with the original purpose of housing cigarettes, this glossy golden case is perfectly suited for carrying business cards. Accented with a cabochon sapphire latch, is a wonderful specimen of early 20th century goldsmithing by one of the world's most prestigious firms.

A similar card case is pictured in Cartier Exceptional Objects by O. Bachet, vol. 1, p. 78.

Marked "Cartier. Paris - London Deposé". Also bears makers mark for Adolphe Chailloux and French assay marks.
