The Gemological Institute of America establishes D color as the highest diamond color grade, yet Golconda diamonds, classified by the GIA as Type IIa, exist in a category entirely their own. These exquisite gems are completely nitrogen-free, exhibiting a whiteness that surpasses even the finest D-color diamonds by two to three full shades. For their extraordinary rarity and unparalleled beauty, Golconda diamonds are commonly referred to as “the ultimate diamonds.”
The antique kite shape on each of the Golconda diamonds is exceptionally rare, as diamonds do not naturally form in such an elongated silhouette and cutting the form requires significant loss from the rough. Yet the effect here is simply extraordinary. With its angular profile and open step cut facets, the kite allows light to enter from all directions, creating a luminous, icy brilliance. These same long facets also leave little room for imperfections to hide, making the internally flawless clarity of these stones especially significant.
The top square emerald diamonds, weighing 3.01 and 3.11 carats, are also the coveted D color and flawless. All four diamonds are certified by the Gemological Institute of America, with the Golconda diamonds accompanied by their Type IIa appendices. The total weight of the earrings is remarkable at 16.21 carats, and they are beautifully set in platinum.
The legendary Golconda mines of India were active from the 4th century BCE until the 19th century, and for 2,000 years, they were the only known source for fine diamonds in the world. Producing highly rare nitrogen-free diamonds almost exclusively, these historic mines have yielded many of the world's most celebrated diamonds, including the major diamonds in the Persian and English royal crowns and the iconic Hope Diamond.
