Yogo sapphires are mined exclusively from Yogo Gulch in Montana and are celebrated for their naturally rich color and exceptional clarity. Discovered in the 1880s, these rare American gems were famously described by Tiffany & Co. gemologist George Kunz as “the finest precious gemstones ever found in America.” Unlike most sapphires, Yogo stones are typically left untreated, as heating diminishes their intensity, making natural examples especially prized.
Venerable American jeweler J.E. Caldwell & Co., founded in 1839 in Philadelphia, is renowned for its Art Nouveau and Deco jewels. One of the country’s oldest fine jewelers, the firm supplied wealthy Philadelphians with European-style jewelry, silver and objets d’art, and its store was celebrated for its opulent design.
