This engraved glass cup commemorates the historic accession and abdication of King Edward VIII. Crafted by the renowned Thomas Goode & Co. of London, significant details abound in this piece. Etched on the front of the bowl are the date of Edward's accession and the date and time of his abdication. The base of the bowl is inset with a coin depicting the king, while the stem has a remarkable glass crown embedded within it. The foot displays engraved markings and inscriptions on the underside. King Edward VIII was the first English monarch to voluntarily abdicate the throne, which he did in order to marry American divorcée and socialite Wallis Sampson. This cup is a fascinating tribute to one of the most controversial royals in the history of the British Empire, and a memorable moment in British history.
