Louis XV-Style Side Chairs
19th Century

The elegant pair of Louis XV-style side chairs exhibits exceptional artistry. Graceful and feminine lines inform this well-balanced design, from the serpentine backs and seats to the gently curved cabriole legs. This well-balanced design is completed by intricate, exotic wood inlay in a delightful floral pattern, and magnificent doré bronze mounts.

The reign of Louis XV of France, the great-grandson of the Sun King, Louis XIV, ushered in the artistry of Rococo. This exquisite and extravagant style is marked by asymmetrical composition of shells, flowers, acanthus leaves, musical instruments and mythological figures such as gods, putti and satyrs. Furniture was more feminine and subdued than in previous years, and was constructed with gracious curving lines from crest to foot. In addition, cast and gilded bronze mounts were added, accentuating the elegance and luxury of these intricately crafted pieces.
