This stoneware jug by Royal Doulton's Lambeth Studio was crafted to commemorate the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. Designed by John Broad, it not only features busts of George Washington and Christopher Columbus, but also an American eagle back by American flags. Bordered by red stars and blue stripes, it is a stunning tribute to the unprecedented display.

Held in Chicago, the exhibition celebrated the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492. More than 27 million people attended the festivities, while 46 different countries were represented at an astounding 65,000 exhibits dedicated to science, the arts and industry.
