This exquisite table lamp by Tiffany Studios features the firm's iconic Poppy shade and its original bronze root base. The coveted Tiffany florals flow gracefully across the shade's mesmerizing design, radiating a brilliant red, amber and green glow when the lamp is lit. Delicate, lace-like bronze filigree is layered over the leaves to heighten the shade's incredible naturalistic effect. Larger than most Poppy shades at its 20-inch diameter, this lamp is a stunning, museum-quality Tiffany treasure.

Almost certainly designed by Clara Driscoll around 1900, the Poppy shade was one of Tiffany's finest designs. Driscoll was appointed head of the women's glass-cutting department at Tiffany Studios in 1892, and she and her team of female artisans created some of the most sought-after and commercially successful designs in the firm's history. The Poppy shade shows her commitment to Louis Comfort Tiffany's Art Nouveau aesthetic of harmonious colors and natural motifs while also demonstrating her unique visionary approach. By 1904, Driscoll had won medals at international expositions for her designs and was one of the highest-paid women in America.

Tiffany lamps are one of the great icons of the American decorative arts, representing Louis Comfort Tiffany's seemingly limitless creativity and endless quest for beauty. Similar examples of this Poppy lamp reside in important museum collections such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the design drawing for this famed shade belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
