This charming piece bears the mark of Wang Hing & Co., a firm that operating in Hong Kong, Canton and Shanghai between 1854 and 1930. While the crafting of silver products such as this one for Western tourists was a popular trade during this period, Wang Hing is among the most prolific of all Chinese export silversmiths. The firm also worked extensively with Tiffany & Co. after the New York firm discovered their impressive silver pieces in China, a relationship that lasted for over 20 years.
