Jules Girardet was born in Versailles to Swiss parents in 1856. He received his formal art education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, concentrating on historical genre for which he became most notable. Girardet enjoyed a successful career, participating in numerous exhibitions in Paris and Switzerland. He exhibited regularly at the Salon, winning a third-class medal in 1881 and both a bronze and silver medal in 1889.
