Designed by John Broad for Royal Doulton's Lambeth Studio, this stoneware pottery jug was crafted to commemorate the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. Held in Chicago, the exhibition celebrated the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492. More than 27 million people attended the festivities, while 46 different countries were represented at an astounding 65,000 exhibits dedicated to science, the arts and industry. This commemorative jug, which features busts of George Washington and Christopher Columbus, as well as an American eagle, is a stunning tribute to the unprecedented display.
