Reimagining the way a wristwatch tells time, Devon’s Tread 1E replaces traditional hands with four interwoven belts. White numerals travel across black bands to display the hours, minutes and seconds, transforming the passage of time into a captivating mechanical performance. The black DLC-coated stainless steel case and expansive transparent cover reveal the intricate machinery beneath, while a black rubber strap and signed buckle complete its industrial aesthetic.
Four miniature electric motors drive the patented belt system, with optical sensors monitoring each belt’s position. Powered by a rechargeable battery, the movement combines electronic control with the visible motion of mechanical components. The seconds belt also indicates the remaining battery charge when the display is switched off. This example is accompanied by its papers and original box, itself an ingenious part of the design with an integrated wireless charging system that brings the watch to life.
Developed and manufactured in the United States, the Tread 1 brought a distinctly American spirit of invention to watchmaking.
