An elegant version of the famous Remington dog head handle surmounts this percussion rifle cane by the Remington Arms Company. Considered by many to be the finest gun canes ever made, these rare weapon canes were produced by Remington beginning in 1858 after a patent by John F. Thomas. Remington discontinued making these gun canes in 1910, and it is estimated that only 1,000 of these canine-form rifle canes were produced. Very limited numbers of these canes have survived, and even fewer of the sleek and sophisticated ladies' versions have survived.

An almost identical cane is featured in Canes in the United States by Catherine Dike.
