This porcelain plaque from the famed Berlin KPM factory is finely hand-painted after one of the most famed Renaissance masterpieces, The Sistine Madonna by Raphael. Depicting a serene Virgin Mary cradling the baby Jesus mounted within a gilt frame, the work is flawless in its execution, providing a splendid example of the creativity and technical genius of KPM's porcelain artists.

Paintings on porcelain by KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur), Berlin’s royal porcelain manufactory, are widely considered to have been superior to all others. First crafted in Europe during the middle of the 19th century, porcelain plaques are very difficult to produce, as ceramic paints do not attain their final color until after firing. These incredible pieces reached their heyday between 1870 and 1890, and were often based upon well-known paintings of the day. Mounted within a beautiful gilt frame, this stunning plaque is in excellent condition.
