A wonderful example of Japanese kanzashi, or hair ornament, this "kushi" hair comb features elegant gold kanagai and nashiji lacquer work. The use of kanzashi dates to the prehistoric Jomon period and over the centuries and due to Chinese influences, the accessories came into prominent use during the Edo period, when hairstyles became more complex and ornamental.
