CANVASES, CARATS AND CURIOSITIES

Yazbek, Charlotte

Charlotte Yazbek (1919-1989) was known for her characteristic, elongated figures of empowered women, and for lending an elegantly understated simplicity to her subjects. She began studying the fine points of art in 1957 with some of the leading Mexican artist of the 20th century, including Uxio Souto, Hermilio Castan~eda and Pedro Medina Guzman. In 1960, she had her first exhibition, with her first solo show happening just two years later. In 1964, Yazbek made her most stunning impression in the art world with 17 of her sculptures featured in the Mexican Pavilion at the New York World’s Fair. The resulting international acclaim led her to holding over 100 world-wide exhibitions throughout her career.
